 Concept of Digital Citizenship

 From the term we are able to make out that digital citizenship means to behave properly or being responsible when using the digital tools or the online sites. So, digital citizenship actually means the ability to navigate or use the digital tools  in a way that is safe, responsible and creative where we can learn various skills and knowledge for our own growth as well as for our own protection of information.

 

 

 

There are nine elements of digital citizenship which can guide the users to effectively make use of the tools;

Digital Access: The users, especially teachers and students need to have an access to proper and enough digital tools especially to laptops and mobile phones. 

2. Digital Commerce: It important that we always verify the sources before using it, whether the source that you are accessing to is good or bad; appropriate or not, especially if you are buying something from the websites, you need to make sure that it is trustworthy.


 

3. Digital Communication: There are various communicative tools that make our communications easier ad convenient, however, while accessing these tools we need to use it in a right and proper manner. As a digital citizen we should use this tools exchange the important information not to manipulate or harass others.

4. Digital Literacy: As an digital users it is important that we need to have an knowledge regarding the right usage of various digital tools in a right way. We need to know how, when and why we need to use them in a proper manner. 


5. Digital Etiquette: It means appropriate behavior that we need to maintain when accessing to different digital tools or sites. We need to access the various tools in a positive and respectful manner so that whatever we do do not hamper others.


6. Digital Laws: As an digital citizen, every after using the websites we need to acknowledge and the authors or the creators work for using their work and we should never plagiarize the others work. 


 7. Digital Rights and Responsibilities: We should always be responsible our own contents and works that we conduct digitally. We have got the right visit others websites and utilize their works but at the same time we also have the responsibilities acknowledge their work.


 

8. Digital Health and Wellness: We should always take into consideration the physical and psychological well being while accessing the digital as it can hamper our health as well as our psychological well being. That is of we spent too much of our time on these tools, first it will waste our time and secondly it will cause uneasiness in our body. Thus, it is important that we know when and how to use these tools in a right and appropriate manner. 


9. Digital Security: As a technology users, it is important that we use know what kind of information we need to share and what not to share. We should always make sure that our personal information are safe and secured. 



As digital citizen in the society, what is the role of teacher in digital citizenship?

Role of teacher is to:

  • ensure that there are enough and proper digital tools like computers, laptops and mobile phones for all the students.
  • creating awareness to students regarding what they should do or how they should behave when accessing the websites, like visiting the verified websites and citing the sources as an acknowledgement to the creators. 
  • teaching students the importance of protecting their personal information with an strong and secretive passwords and keeping their devices updated.
  • teachers should also create awareness to students regarding the benefits of using the technologies along with the harm that it can cause if not used well, like addiction and the damage it can cause to our body. 

What digital Rights and Responsibilities you as teacher should carry out in society, community and work?

  • As a teacher, we have the responsibility to promote digital literacy in society, community and work so that it can help them to develop skills to critically evaluate the online information and use the digital tools effectively.
  • We also have the duty to prevent the cyber bullying and harassment by educating the students regarding the responsible digital citizenship. 
  • Teachers have the right to access information and resources  to enhance your teaching practices and professional development as well as the responsibility to cite or acknowledge the site in which we retrieve the information.
